Hydration and digestion after 50
Drinking plenty of water, and still feeling dry, bloated, or stuck?
The Hydrated Gut is a plain-spoken home for adults over 50: books, free printable tools, and short videos. It sets traditional ideas about warmth, timing, and a little gentle fat beside what modern physiology says about how the body uses fluid.

A different way to think about hydration
Most advice stops at “drink more water.” For many people over 50, that is not the whole picture. The Hydrated Gut looks at three quieter things:
- Warmth. Warm drinks and cooked, soft food are often easier on a sensitive gut than cold and dry ones.
- Timing. When you drink can matter as much as how much. A steady day may serve you better than a flood at bedtime.
- Moisture in the food. Soups, stews, and porridges carry their own water, with a little fat to make them satisfying.
None of this is a cure, and none of it replaces medical care. It is a set of small, practical habits to try, and a way to notice how your own body responds.
The Oasis: more than the books
The Oasis is where the books continue. It has two rooms, and more ways to follow along.
- The Oasis Library, free. The printable logs, the weekly planner, and the recipe measurement cards from the books, with more added over time.
- The Hydrated Gut Academy, in preparation. Guided online courses for readers who want to be walked through the practices step by step: a free introductory course to begin, and fuller paid courses for those who want more.
- Short videos. Practical, plain-language videos on The Hydrated Gut YouTube channel.

Who writes these books
I’m Raymond Koekemoer. At fifty-four, I was drinking plenty of water and still struggling with constipation and constant dryness. What helped was not more water. It was warmth, rhythm, and a little gentle fat. I write about what I have lived and tested in my own kitchen, in plain language. I’m not a doctor.
